Jamie Lawson
Gingerbread Man/Elektra recording artist and Ivor Novello Award winning musician Jamie Lawson has announced the release of his new album “HAPPY ACCIDENTS” out September 29th. The new album marks Lawson’s return following his 2015 self-titled major label debut album, also released from global superstar Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records label.  “HAPPY ACCIDENTS” is now available for pre-orderHERE.  Additionally, the British singer/songwriter has unveiled the first track from the record, the immediate and irresistible “Can’t See Straight.” Written with Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid (Snow Patrol), the song is available today at all DSPs and streaming services HERE and comes as an instant-grat track with all album pre-orders.  Watch Lawson perform an acoustic version of “Can’t See Straight” accompanied by Sheeran, streaming on Lawson’s official YouTube channel HERE.

On Lawson and the new album, Sheeran says, “I’m so excited to be releasing ‘Happy Accidents’ by Jamie Lawson on my label Gingerbread Man Records; I truly think it’s the best music he’s ever written. Jamie has had an incredible couple of years, and I feel very lucky to be a part of his journey so far.”

L-R Ed Sheeran and Jamie Lawson
Lawson and Sheeran sat down recently to discuss Lawson’s
past success and upcoming album for “Tea with Ed…Jamie Lawson (Two years later…),” the second in a video series of conversations between the two artists streaming on the Gingerbread Man Records official YouTube channel.  Watch the entire chat HERE.

Lawson remarks, “Sunset Sound Studios - LA. This is where the album was recorded. All The Doors records were made here as well as those of James Taylor, early Prince, Elliott Smith, Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow and Counting Crows. All of them million selling records, some multi-million selling.  I have to admit, for the first two weeks I was a little intimidated by the place. Why was I, a Plymouth born St Budeaux boy, in sunny Los Angeles working with Joe Chiccarelli as my producer, with Roger Manning Jr and Matt Chamberlain as part of my band, recording at one of the most legendary studios on the planet? I still don’t know, but I’ll be forever grateful.”

Lawson with his Ivor Novello Award
Written and recorded throughout the tail end of 2016, and spring of 2017, “HAPPY ACCIDENTS” saw Lawson hunker down in the prestigious Sunset Sound Studios in LA with producer Joe Chiccarelli, as well as
keyboard player Roger Manning Jr (Jellyfish, Beck) and drummer Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Tori Amos) to produce the best work of his career thus far.

The title is taken from the first communications between Lawson and his now wife, when she wandered, by chance, in to his show at The Bedford in London (incidentally, the same venue where Lawson met Ed Sheeran for the first time), “hooray for happy accidents.”  Along with “Can’t See Straight,” another album highlight is “A Little Mercy,” a warm, gospel feeling track, co-written with Simon Aldred aka Cherry Ghost, with backing vocals coming from The Arnold Singers, legendary vocalists who sing with James Taylor.  “Sing To The River” is a spine tingling balled about Lawson’s father, who died when the musician was just 19, which allowed him to finally put in to words the grief that overwhelmed him.  “HAPPY ACCIDENTS” is a warming, uplifting and incredibly complete record, perfectly tying together Lawson’s journey so far.

In 2015, Jamie Lawson became the first signee to Ed Sheeran’s own label Gingerbread Man Records.  His self-titled,  label debut, released that same year, went to #1 on the UK album chart to much critical acclaim, and featured the breakout, worldwide smash “Wasn’t Expecting That” which has garnered more than 110 million Spotify streams, over 28 million YouTube views, and has sold over a million copies.  Jamie made his U.S. television debut with a performance of the hit single, which reached #16 at Hot AC radio, on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” where Ed Sheeran also gave a special introduction.   Other high profile, national television appearances include NBC’s “TODAY” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as well as CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”

In addition to touring alongside Ed Sheeran and Vance Joy, Jamie also embarked on a North American headline tour of his own which included a stop at Los Angeles’ famed Troubadour.  To round off his incredible success, Jamie was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Song (Musically and Lyrically) in 2016, the same award Sheeran received for his own breakthrough single “The A Team” in 2012.
