Nice
Life Recording Company/Atlantic recording artist Lizzo has announced the
release of her eagerly anticipated new single. “Water
Me” is available now via all digital music retailers and streaming
services.
“Water
Me” – which premiered exclusively via Zane Lowe on Beats 1
World First record – is accompanied by an equally captivating new visual. The
clip made its debut via The FADER, which saw Lizzo write, “’Water Me’ is a
labor of love. I pride myself on how quickly I can finish a song but this took
seven months! It's about needing nourishment, it's about being loved for who
you are. The video concept was a collaboration from my badass creative team:
me, Andy Madeline, Quinn Wilson and Asha Efia. We're celebrating black beauty
and the meaningful freedom of water.” “Water Me” is streaming now at Lizzo’s
official YouTube channel.
Lizzo
will celebrate “Water Me” with an upcoming live tour. The second leg of the
“Good As Hell” Tour is set to begin in Austin, TX on November 3rd (TOUR
DATES BELOW). The upcoming tour is an extension of the first leg of “Good As
Hell” tour dates, which saw her sell out shows in Chicago, New York, D.C., and
Dallas. This fall will also see Lizzo performing at the famed Made In America
festival in Philadelphia on September 3rd and The Meadows in
Queens on September 15th. For complete tour details and ticket
information, please visit www.lizzomusic.com/tour.
“Water
Me” follows Lizzo’s hugely acclaimed debut EP on Atlantic
Records, “COCONUT OIL,” released in October 2016 to unanimous critical
acclaim and popular success. “A very spirited collection,” ravedPitchfork.
“(Lizzo) pushes to the upper reaches of her vocal range, quite literally
belting out her own praises with no hint of shyness.” Rolling Stone named the EP to its “20 Best Pop
Albums of 2016,” praising it for “showcasing Lizzo's ability to turn any type
of song into something joyous and unmistakably hers.”
“COCONUT
OIL” is highlighted by the hit single, “Good As
Hell,” also featured on 2016’s recent “BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT
(ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK).” The track – available now at all DSP’s and streaming
services – received online love from a range of national
outlets. “A slickly crafted piece of retro, self-loving lyricism,”
declared SPIN, “meshes everything (Lizzo) does best into one powerful package.”
“A massive new feel-good anthem,” raved The Line of Best Fit while Minnesota Public
Radio’s The Current proclaimed, “If (‘Good As Hell’) is
any indication of what’s ahead, Lizzo is quickly moving up the ranks of the
indie hip-hop world and starting to crossover into mainstream pop.” “The
soul-grooving, piano-driven song is (Lizzo’s) most radio-friendly yet,”
applauded City Pages. “(‘Good As Hell’) reiterates her trademark
messages of self-love and empowerment.”
Rolling Stone hailed “Good As Hell” as “a euphoric hip-hop
soul throwback,” noting, “Lizzo makes a trip to the beauty shop sound like the
best party in town.” “God bless Lizzo,” declared NOISEY. “The Minneapolis-based queen knows how to knock out a party
anthem, a song with personal-political grit, and yeah she can do a scrape
yourself off the floor, fuck you I'm fine break up song too.” “Instantly
intriguing and exciting,” raved the Boston Globe, “(Lizzo’s) combination of
overwhelming enthusiasm, deep musical knowledge, and infectious confidence mesh
together into songs that are simultaneously personal and universal – and
incredibly catchy, to boot.”
As if
that weren’t enough, Rolling Stone singled out “Good As
Hell” in its “Best Pop Albums of 2016 So Far,”
explaining that, “Despite these albums, pop still remains a genre for
singles. Lizzo's boisterous ‘Good As Hell,’ produced by omnipresent 2016
producer Ricky ‘Wallpaper" Reed,’ is a straight-no-chaser shot of
self-confidence with a call-and-response chorus.”
Lizzo
made a number of high profile TV appearances to mark her Atlantic arrival,
including a sizzling live performance on the nationally syndicated The Real. The Minneapolis-based no-genre hip
hop star also earned national notice as host of MTV’s Wonderland and 2016 Video Music Awards Red Carpet Pre-Show.
Widely
acclaimed for her powerhouse vocal skills and equally potent lyrical message,
Lizzo has spent much of the past year on the road, headlining shows in Los
Angeles, New York City, and London, while also lighting up such top music
festivals as SXSW, Hangout Music Festival, Boston Calling, St. Paul, MN’s
SoundSet Music Festival, Paris, FR’s Afropunk Fest, and Bonnaroo Music &
Arts Festival. Consequence of Sound noted how Lizzo’s “fun,
amped-up, pro-lady hip-hop brought some serious energy to the (Boston Calling)
crowd,” while B-Sides heralded the Hangout Music Festival set by declaring her to
be “fierce, tough, and really fun to dance to.” The Houston Press summed it up best: “(Lizzo’s) set was
amazing – part BeyoncĂ©, part Tina Turner, all attitude!”
Lizzo
made her stellar solo debut in 2013 with “LIZZOBANGERS,” earning international
applause from such mainstream media outlets as Time, which named Lizzo to its “14 Bands and Artists To Watch” list,
hailing her as “an inventive and outside-the-box emcee.” “A super-charged
debut,” declared The Guardian in a four-starred rave. “At times
joyfully nonsensical, Lizzo's stream-of-consciousness rhymes can also be
lethally pointed.”
“BIG
GRRRL SMALL WORLD” followed in 2015, affirming Lizzo as an iconic contemporary
rapper and hip hop force of nature. Recorded at Justin Vernon of Bon Iver’s
April Base Studios in Fall Creek, WI, the album was named one of SPIN’s “50 Best Hip Hop Albums of 2015” after earning praise around
the planet. “There’s a power about both the music and Lizzo herself that pulls
the listener breathlessly along,” raved The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis. “This is an album that
sounds ready to take on the world.” “Lizzo is anything but a one-trick pony,”
wrote NME, “(as well as a blistering rapper, she's also a show-stopping
gospel singer and classically trained flautist), and the full range of her
talent is on display here.” Perhaps Paste summed it up best, applauding Lizzo’s “unfettered
experimentalism” and adding, “Hip hop needs a strong female voice today – one
that matches the pop magnetism of Beyoncé, but with the political and social
awareness of Killer Mike…Lizzo seems primed and ready to fill that spot.”
Lizzo
made a number of high profile appearances supporting “BIG GRRRL SMALL WORLD,”
highlighted by a spectacular rendition of the album’s “Ain’t I” on CBS’ Late Show with Stephen
Colbert. The performance was declared to be “as raw and authentic as late
night TV gets,” by Music Times. “Lizzo danced and strutted on the stage
displaying her ability to spit a sick verse and show off her equally impressive
vocal range, all wrapped up in a politically charged song that brought
attention to women's issues, black culture and body image.”
