Meet Actor Eric Wentz

From The 2017 Hollywood Comedy

Film Festival

The Hollywood Comedy Shorts Film Festival has closed its curtains for their 2017 run. As always, the content and quality of the selected films (of which there were over 110), did not disappoint. It proves the point that there are hundreds of film makers out there who may never see the Hollywood big time but that does not take away from their creative talents or skills.

As an international/nationally syndicated entertainment columnist who covers this event annually, I get to meet a lot of interesting people but due to print space limits I must choose one or two to feature individually.

Eric Wentz
At the opening night celebrity panel held at the “Adults Only” Club on the world famed Sunset Strip in Hollywood I had a chance meeting and conversation with actor Eric Wentz who sat near me in a both shared by several people. We had an interesting conversation regarding how he is strategizing to take his acting career to the next level. The Wisconsin native is a graduate of The Julliard School of Acting in New York. Wentz plays the lead role in producer Courtney Thomas’ comedy short titled “In the Hole.” He plays a guy who becomes fed up with his boring, mundane 9 to 5 gig as phone soliciting salesman pitching dream vacations. Wentz has the lady catching good looks and the acting chops of a seasoned vet, that if noted by the right people should get him to that storied next level in the company of box office winners Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Ben Affleck.

Wenz describes his comedy short as a “Cringe” film. He explains, “Cringe is anything that makes you a little uncomfortable. I think its maybe things like a lot of embarrassment. That’s what the judges are expecting to see. There is definitely a great deal of that in my film.” Wentz also co-wrote the script. When asked about the level of difficulty it would be to market or sell such a project, Wentz’s positivity and determination comes through saying, “When my co-writer and I came up with this story, we just came up with something we loved that we though was funny. As far as it being hard to market, we’ll see. Some of the craziest stuff gets picked up.”

On the writing tip Wentz suggest; “You have to know your audience but ultimately with comedy you start with what you want to write about. An inspired writer is going to be a good writer. If you are having a good time with it, there is something organically there. You are never going to please everyone but if you can reach your people, that’s a great thing.”
